How to Attach Your Patch
There are several ways to enjoy your Arcana Living patch. Before you begin, check whether yours is an embroidered sew-on patch or a woven iron-on patch.
Embroidered Patches
SEW IT ON
Use a needle and thread to stitch around the edge of the patch. This is the most secure option for clothing, bags and blankets.
Choose a thread that matches the colour of the patch border.
Position the patch and stitch around the border using simple looping stitches. For easier sewing, push the needle down through the front of the patch, then bring it back up through the fabric beside the border. Continue all the way around and secure the thread firmly on the back.
This is the most secure option for clothing, bags and blankets.
USE FABRIC GLUE
Apply a suitable fabric glue according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This works well for items that will not be washed, as well as notebooks, book covers and fabric hangings.
FRAME IT
Patches look beautiful in box frames. Simply use glue dots to attach your patch to the backing inside the frame.
____________
Woven Iron-on Patches
-
Place the patch in your chosen position. Check that the fabric can safely be ironed.
-
Set your iron to a medium heat: 150°C / 300°F. Make sure the steam is switched off.
-
Cover the patch with a thin piece of fabric, such as a clean handkerchief or pillowcase.
-
Press the iron down firmly for 15–20 seconds. Do not move the iron back and forth.
-
Allow the area to cool, then check that all edges and corners are securely attached. Repeat carefully if needed.
-
Leave the item to cool and set for a full 24 hours before wearing or washing.
HELPFUL TIPS
-
Take care not to scorch the patch or fabric.
-
Do not iron patches onto heat-sensitive, waterproof or plastic-coated materials.
-
For frequently worn or washed items, add a few stitches around the edge for extra security.
-
Ironing and sewing should be done by an adult.
