‘A World Built By Moss' - Curiosity Club

Inside September’s ‘A World Built by Moss’ Edition

📕 Discovery Guide & Explorer’s Workshop:

At first glance, a peat bog may seem quiet and empty. But around its mossy surface, water, plants and animals are shaping a remarkable ecosystem that has been building for thousands of years:

○ Discover how Sphagnum moss holds water and helps create the conditions in which peat can form
○ Explore the Flow Country’s pools, hummocks and hollows, and meet the specialists adapted to life there
○ Meet curlews, sundews, large heath butterflies, black darters and other peatland wildlife
○ Investigate how peatlands store carbon, preserve traces of the past and connect through a web of life
○ Compare bogs and fens, open blanket bogs and tropical peat-swamp forests
○ Experiment and make, with water investigations, a Great Sundew Puppet and layered Peat Bog Pudding
